Afternoon Fishing Dogfight – Results Week 8

Hey Guys:  Here are the results for Week 8 of the Wednesday Afternoon Fishing Dogfights.
The start of the Week Eight’s tournament was not on schedule because of the bad weather.  There was lots of lighting and rain so the blast off was delayed 15 minutes.  Most team encountered a little bit of rain but overall it turned out nice.
Just a reminder that the no-wake zone is also idle speed only.  The water in the Main Calcasieu is getting much clearer and the fish are starting to respond. The fishermen voted to end the tournament at 8:45 pm.  The fishing is really getting better as reflected by the results - 5 teams weighed in a bass that was over two pounds.  With the fishing getting good so is the participation.  Week 8 would have been the largest of this year but several teams thinking that the weather was too bad left to be able to fish another day.

I thank you for your support…….

Below are the results of week 8:

1st  Place Team was the two man team of Sean Meche & Jay “Boz Boyy” Landreneau with a outstanding 5 fish limit that weighed in at 7.09 pounds.  Their stringer was anchored by the Big Bass of the tournament Sean’s nice 3.66 pounder which won the Wendi’s Flower Cart Dozen Roses for catching the Big Bass .  They told the crowd of fishermen and spectators that their fish were captured on Senko’s and buzzbaits.  They caught 8 bass in the tournament in the Main River north of Ward 8 Park. They also won the Tarver Ford Bonus Cash of $100.  For their fishing effort in the tournament he earned $478.  They was the highest non qualified team for the end of the year Championship so they now have earned a spot as one of the twenty teams to fish in that tournament.  Great job.   Oh by the way the Boz Boyy reference comes from me trying to read the entry form without my reading glasses and what I was reading instead of Jay’s name was Sean’s cell phone number which was on the line above his name – 804 8044.  The 8’s looked like “B’s” and the 4’s looked like “y’s”…….I will accept most of the blame because I did not have my glasses on but Sean’s handwriting might be responsible for the rest of the blame……lol
So WE are sorry JAY…………..

2nd Place Team was awarded to Richy Cunningham  & Matt West for their 5 fish limit that weighed 6.00 pounds.  They had a respectable stringer anchored with a nice 1.84 pounder.  For their effort they were awarded $98 plus $100 in Bonus Cash from Lake Charles Toyota for being the highest placing team with a Toyota towing vehicle.  They caught 7 bass in the tournament on frogs and buzzbaits in the West Fork. They was paid a total of $198.

3rd Place Team was Greg Byrley with a 5 fish stringer that weighed 5.82 pounds.  His  stringer  was anchored with a 2.13 pounder.  He captured most of his fish on a buzzbait in the Main River.  For their effort they earned $42.

The contestants were treated to door prizes from Lake Charles Tackle.  This upcoming week remember if you purchase anything from Parkside Marina ask them for a receipt then write your name on the back of the receipt and drop it in the container marked Parkside Drawing.  From those receipts we will draw for a 6 pack of your choice at the end of the tournament.  Jacob Johnson was the lucky 6 pack recipient this week.

Keith Castille – nice bass on the Calcasieu river May 14, 2010

Keith and some buddies went fishing north of Ward 8 Park.  The fish was caught just outside a cut on a buzzbait.

Bass Caught on Calcasieu May 13, 2010 – North of Ward 8.

While fishing with my son Keith I talked this nice 2 pounder into hitting a buzzbait.  She hit the buzzbait very close to the boat and the fight was on.  Took a pic and dropped her back into the muddy water.  Maybe I will see her again…….Ron

Afternoon Fishing Dogfights Week 4, 2010

Hey Guys:  Here are the results of Week 4 of the Wednesday Afternoon Fishing Dogfights.  Sorry, that I did not get this out Wednesday night.  I left after the conclusion of the tournament last Wednesday night and drove to my camp on Toledo Bend then spent two days practicing and fishing two days of the Louisiana Best Six Tournament. I belong to the Sportsman’s Bass Club and along with the rest of our team Glenn Granger, Mitch Frazer, Tony Coburn, Mark LeLeaux, David Archer and my fishing partner Jason Hawes ended up in 16th place.   We were a little disappointed after finishing 2nd place last year but have no regrets.  I hope you would understand why the report is late………

The start of the Week four tournament was right on schedule on this not so hot cloudy day.  The water is getting clearer and the weather was great. The fishermen voted to end the tournament at 8:30 pm.  A few of the fisherman that went above Ward 8 Park got rained on but most stayed dry.  Below are the results of week 4:

1st Place Team was the duo of Buddy Pesson & Steve Goff with a outstanding 5 fish limit that weighed in at 6.91 pounds.  Their stringer was anchored by a nice 2.07 pounder.  . They caught their bass of the tournament on chug bugs and plastic lures in both the sort of muddy Calcasieu River and the clearer West Fork.  They reported catching 7 fish. They also won the Tarver Ford’s Bonus Cash of $100.  For their effort they earned $360.

2nd Place Team was awarded to Troy Tate & Paul Frilot for their 5 fish limit that weighed 5.53 pounds.  They had a respectable stringer anchored with their biggest fish a 1.31 pounder.  For their effort they were awarded $91 plus $100 in Bonus Cash from Lake Charles Toyota for being the highest placing team with a Toyota towing vehicle.  They reported that they were fishing in the main River and were chunking crankbaits.  They boated around 12 fish in the 4 hour tournament.  They were the highest non qualified team for the end of the year Championship so they now have earned a spot to be able to be one of the twenty teams to fish in that tournament.

3rd Place Team was Robert Weemes & David Rabalais with a 5 fish stringer that weighed 5.22 pounds. Their  stringer  was anchored with a 1.99 pounder. They captured most of their fish on plastic lures in the West Fork.

4th Place Team of Mike McDonald & Bryan Whitley finished with a 3 fish stringer that weighed 4.95 pounds. Their stringer was anchored by Mike’s Big Bass of the night, a great looking 2.58 pounder that could not resist a buzzbait.  The Big Bass Winner of the night was a resident of the West Fork.  Mike won the Wendi’s Flower Cart Dozen Roses for catching the Big Bass and the team was awarded $91 for 1st Place Big Bass.
